Heather

ASCA CKC CH Iacovetta Rana of Coppertone CD STDs

"Heather Doll"
4/29/1996 -1/12/2012

I named Heather after her grandmother Kline’s Blue Heather of Coppertone and from what I’ve learned from Kline’s and their daughter Bobbie, Heather was a lot like her grandmother.  Bev Iacovetta bred her Coppertone bitch, Cheyenne to Tony and we all kept puppies.  I chose the only blue girl.  She was the naughtiest puppy in the litter, the first one out of the whelping box, the first one to climb the baby gate and she stayed that way all her life.  Heather was bossy, not mean, just bossy.   She was a “girlie girl” and really preferred to do nothing but lay on the end of the couch but we were able to squeak a few titles in.  She was trained through open but never got any legs toward her CDX.   Heather was extremely smart in obedience and didn’t like repetition as she only needed to be shown something once and then she made the decision if she was going to do the exercise or not.  Then the little kids showed her in pee wee handling  I’d watch them out in the ring setting her legs up all wrong and after they stood back up, she would correct herself.  She always came through for the kids in junior showmanship even when they were in the older levels.   Heather was very beautiful and she knew it.  I was the lucky one to have her in my life.  She enjoyed great health and I lost her just 3 months shy of her 16th birthday.  Oh by the way “Rana” means beautiful object that draws attention and that perfectly describes Heather.

Cole

Cole was a very layed back dog.  He was extremely beautiful but was neutered due to being cryptorchid.  He liked working stock but really just wanted to be my companion. He passed away May 2012 at the age of 14.

Birkie

Birkie came to live with me at the age of 7 from Laurie Friberg of Woodlake Kennel when her owner Laurie’s dad  had health problems and was no longer able to keep her.   She only needed one leg to get her CDX and put her mother in the ASCA Hall of Fame and we were able to do that.   Birkie liked working stock and was a darling girl.  She was one of the best behaved dogs I’ve ever owned but that was probably because I didn’t raise her!

Taylor

Another Tony son out of Cedar’s Bonnie Lass.  Taylor truly reflected his father in looks and personality.  A sweetheart of a dog.

A Tony son out of Diamond Aire Kayla  O’Mooncrest.  “Trav” was a handsome boy. He was in my life when I had a lot of dogs and not enough time to work them all. We tried flyball for a year, he was crazy for tennis balls.

Beamer

A Tony daughter, Beamer was a sweet girl and made her father proud.  She was from the first litter Tony sired and wasn’t interested in stock so Marie sent her to live with me.   Beamer was fun and easy going and just a great girl.  When Kelli was little she called her “Bea may”.

I've said it a million times, Tony was the love of my life.   As close as I was to Danny and the girls when Tony arrived in my life he touched something in me that I never knew was there.   I used to call him “my love” and he answered to it.
He did anything I asked of him just cause he loved me.  We would get a CDX in one weekend, stock titles on a dog who really wasn’t interested in stock.  He was absolutely beautiful and would turn heads wherever he went.  I was always being complimented on my beautiful dog.   He was a terrific ambassador for the breed.   He  could be very humorous.  To most people he seemed very serious and layed back but yet he had me laughing a lot. Everyone who owned one of his puppies all said the same thing; that they were wonderful dogs and dearly loved.    He passed away from Hemangiosarcoma in 2000 at the age of 14. It took two years before I could even look at his picture or let myself think about him. Loosing Tony was one of the hardest things I ever had to do.

Spree

Silver Sage of Coppertone X Diamond AireBelle

Spree came to live with me at the age of three.    She and Copper were littermates and Spree was in a pet home in Red Wing, MN. The people called up Marie one day and said they couldn’t afford to feed a dog anymore so Marie went and got her.   She was bred to Diamond Aire-O  and produced one of Diamond Aire’s foundation dogs, Ch. Diamond Aire Hey Jude.  Spree had a lot of heart; she was very obedient and had a great guilty look. She loved obedience work and always wanted to please.

Copper came to live with me already Champion and CD.  Marie Murphy  of Diamond Aire sent her home for me to work in obedience and she never left.   Copper was a Lady.  She was a sweet girl and did everything I asked of her.

Danny

By accident I acquired a Coppertone bred dog and he changed my life.    Danny was the smartest dog I have ever known.  In the old days obedience training was way different than it is now but he never quit on me and he became the first Australian Shepherd to get a UD and the first tracking titled Aussie  in Minnesota and at the time I was told he was the fifth in the country to get a UDT.   He alerted me to a camper fire in an alley once and another time circled a group of guys with knives in a dark alley when we were coming home one night.

He did funny things like when at a dog show and he wanted to leave, he’d sit at the end of his leash and just pull it tight like a mule and just hold it there pulling me.  When he wanted something he would “whisper bark” at me.  One time I was laying on the couch in the living room and my mom burst into my front door.  Danny leapt up and charged at her throat, when he realized who it was he dropped to the floor.   Another time I was lying in bed and he was standing at the side whispering at me and making motions with his head for me to follow him.   I got up and said “ok, what do you want, Lassie”. He led me over to the dining room table where a bag of treats was sitting and would look at the treats and then at me, then back to the treats.   He could also count and did lots of tricks.

Danny taught me a lot and was a very special dog. He got the whole thing started.  I was so fortunate have him in my life.
He went everywhere with me and did everything with me. He died of bone cancer in November 1994. There was a huge void in the house for a long time after his death.
